It's Showtime: Kuala Lumpur... KLCC, Petronas Towers & Bukit Bintang!

Kuala Lumpur would be my base for the following two days but I would be spending my time away from the city. I had one more evening to roam around those KL city streets, I wanted to see a certain CBD and Petronas Twin Towers beforehand. Of course, the energy of Bukit Bintang needed to be observed! With a near miss, I was able to keep things on track in a timely manner!

Malaysia's capital city was about to hook me up with a British favourite, I had done my research beforehand to find out that Kuala Lumpur boasted its own 'Marks & Spencer' department store! Now, I had no ambition to buy any clothing but since Hong Kong's own had been out of my life since June 2023, I wanted another bag of those delectable 'Percy Pigs!' Making my way from the National Museum of Malaysia to Suria KLCC saw me navigating the transit system, it didn't take long for me to change between those lines. I had wanted to snap those gargantuan twin towers but knew that killing some time in that nearby shopping centre wouldn't do any harm. I had no idea how many high end brands would be inside that shiny air conditioned super shopping centre! No, I was super impressed to see the likes of FENDI, Gucci and Louis Vuitton to name just a few! Sure, some brands specialised in Halal Couture being in a conservative and practicing Islamic society. I already knew where my Malaysian Ringgits would be spent! M, I was starving!

I had been practically sober since I had left China, I was in need of a little drink to keep my body from withdrawing. Literally the scene was drier than a camels foot in the dessert and I wasn't joking! I found Chili's to my surprise, ordering some friend chicken sliders and fries was the perfect sit-down fast food for me! I was even able to find a draught pint of Guinness and a cheeky poured cocktail, it was super tempting to carry on drinking but I had an early morning the next day. I really valued those two hushed alcoholic drinks because KL had booze on lock, that wasn't a mood for me. Those Percy Pigs came back into my life shortly after I had found good ole M&S, I loved the fact all of the Christmas chocolates and biscuits were on display. I made two necessary purchases before I moved towards those KL based Twin Towers! HK still stands to have the best M&S Food Hall, I am just not sorry Kuala Lumpur! With those errands completed, I made my way out of Suria KLCC to see the weather turn before my very eyes! Rain!

I had so far dodged any serious rain showers since I had arrived in Malaysia, that second evening in Kuala Lumpur was about to change that for me! I had to take refuge in the doorway of a shopping centre across the road from Suria KLCC because that tropical shower didn't leave me enough time to even find the towers! Honestly, it felt as if I had spent the whole evening waiting for that aggressive rain shower to disappear. Maybe so? Anyway, I found the right moment to head the short distance from my hideout to find those towers! I felt in that moment that Kuala Lumpur was alive, I was high on life bit not under the influence of any liquor or substance. Those majestic and never-ending Petronas Twin Towers looked mighty fine, it felt correct to be standing in that very same KLCC spot! During 2020's first Lockdown, I had blogged about places that I would visit after the Pandemic ended. I had put Kuala Lumpur into that blog wish with the Petronas Towers as a key attraction to be visited. That COVID travel dream came true!

The traffic opposite the towers wasn't super busy, it wasn't still but the towers shone brightly as they stood in front of me. There was something quite imposing yet electrifying about them, I couldn't quite put it into words. It was like the rain showers had cleared the nights sky, the towers stood illuminated just so as the sky presented itself crystal clear. I had no intention to visit these towers in the day because the full effect of the lights at the top wouldn't have looked as nice. I had to pinch myself in that moment because those KL towers shone brighter than any form of light, even daylight to be precise. For me I didn't spend much time gawping at the Petronas Twin Towers because I was able to clock that landmark quickly with appreciation extended in the same moment. I wanted to see a certain lit up Malaysian flag! Would I get to see another set of brightly coloured lights? That was the question! KL's Merdeka Saloma Bridge did not shine red white and blue with a little yellow also! That was just for Independence Day! Yes!

My next port of call took me around the houses good and proper with a certain interchange stop that didn't impress me much! I had heard too much about Bukit Bintang, I had almost vowed to myself that I wouldn't visit that tourist favourite side of the city because the hype was too much! I had heard some Gay Bars existed around that area, I wanted to check the area out but knew that drinking of any kind would be out of the question with an early start to Malacca happening the next day! I had clocked the brightly coloured lights from those tourism websites, I wanted to have a gander for myself. Taking two forms of public transportation saw me arrive into the heart of Bukit Bintang's centre, it was a hive of activity with a certain buzz about it. I had done some research to find out a Gay Bar called 'Blue Boy Club' was hidden around a corner, I wanted to at least locate it. My already very long day had me feeling tired, more drink and the rest of it was a no-go for me. Sure, I am used to searching high and low for a bar but it was a lot! I loved it so!

My Apple Maps only half helped me find my intended location, I took an unexpected turning down one alley to find a questionable looking side street situation. The bright lights of Bukit Bintang felt along way from that dimmed setting, if only it was just located a matter of metres from that brightly lit tourist haven. I had to take a double take because I thought I had found that bar? Had I? Yes, I actually had and it was firmly closed! I didn't even look online to see if it would be opening later on because I needed to be in bed earlier that night. For me it was just to see if Gay spaces existed in such a strict setting, I had my question answered nevertheless. I felt proud of myself that I was able to experience a whole evening with a sober refrain for once, the shopping experience showed me window shopping from an opulent point. I loved the Twin Towers with all of that extra prowess, the lights were truly lit! B.B. served secrets and for that I wasn't mad! Heading back to my hotel signified that Kuala Lumpur had served everything! Oh!

All Of The Lights!
