Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner... Bangkok, Thailand!

Bangkok's culinary offerings kept me moving, authentic yet simple I ensured things would remain. After a much needed hangover cure, I ensured that the Thai capital was explored to a respectable level. Chinatown? Yes, it was necessary to give some love to one of the world's largest Chinatown because it's not like I don't eat enough Chinese food? 'Wat Arun?' B, it was clocked!

Left in limbo, was I hungover or not? I couldn't decide how I felt after that semi-conservative first night-out in Bangkok but I needed something to eat! Yes, it was still breakfast time! Heading down towards Si Lom MRT Station, I was able to see what that previously chaotic nightspot looked like in the daylight! I was saved by the 'Silom Complex', a larger than life mixed use development, the basement level food court was calling me! What do Thai people eat for their breakfast? I actually didn't know! I pursued through the takeaway style places to see what food impressed me much? I didn't want rice nor noodles! I didn't want anything western either, I was in a semi-hungover fix! Were they selling Thai tea? What was Thai tea? I remembered from the photoshoot challenge on Drag Race Thailand, S3! I did order an milk tea but it wasn't of the Thai variation, for me I didn't see that as a fail because I would have plenty of time to try Thai tea for another Thai inspired 'Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner' before I headed back to reality!

Food wise, I ordered a Thai style omelette because I had searched online to find some Thai breakfast ideas. Kai Jiew? Yes, that safe yet adventourous breakfast choice set me up for the day ahead! I devoured every single bit of that crispy yet soft Thai egg meal, did I taste prawns? Yes, I did! I would learn fast that prawns would be a firm favourite of mine during my foodie journey in Thailand for that first trip! I definitely enjoyed dipping that perfectly cooked omelette into some hot sauce, don't quote me if it was the world famous 'Sriracha?!' The omelette was hearty yet light at the same time, I had no complaints to lodge! Being brought back to life, my omelette and milk tea hit the spot collectively! I had serious time for 'Silom Complex' because it had hooked me up without much thought! Breakfast was a winner, I had the fire to head to the MRT with Sanam Chai firmly in my sights. That quick breakfast was a winner, with such a major day ahead of me, I would need that food foundation badly! Take me to the river! Ta'ra Silom! Byee!

I found myself standing near the waters of the 'Chao Phraya River', those Bangkok travel dreams were coming true! Getting to that point saw me walking through a series of less than aesthetic settings, I knew that it was all part of the experience. Did I have a plan? No, I was like a hot mess trying to navigating through those Sanam Chai streets. Passing many museums, I was conscious that an entrance fee would be required for some of those places. This was my first self-guided trip in a while, finding my feet saw me having to recalculate my route once or twice. I knew that my lunchtime ramblings would include seeing the river but I had not done any previous research, this was to avoid getting side-tracked with a beverage of a certain kind. I did appreciate 'Wat Arun' from the opposite side of the river, I was feeling the heat of the day, getting a boat wasn't the one for me. That view was all about perspective, I felt like that moment in time was merely a preview and I wasn't mad about that. Talking about lunch, I was just way too hot to eat!

That view was second to none, with a clever camera trick I was able to snatch that Bangkok temple as a valid photographic memory! Now, I had just exited the 'Grand Palace' and was feeling the heat of the day, I kept my cards close to my chest because I didn't want to navigate the boat over the river to reach 'Wat Arun'. I knew in my heart that the disjointed nature of that lunchtime moment was justified, I was unknowingly doing field research for a future trip to Bangkok! There was method to my madness, I saved my coins and was able to marvel at the busy waters of that Thai river. Wat Arun stood strong, with striking features, as mentioned before that majestic Thai temple was appreciated from a distance. With wisdom and strength gathered from that moment beside that riverside, it was time to think about the night-time. My friend Andy was making his way from Pattaya, I needed to head back to my hostel to get ready for my second night-out in a row! I wasn't well but knew that once that first pint had gone down, I'd be grand!

Oh, I was absolutely starving! Myself and Andy left Silom for Chinatown in a cut price GRAB taxi, I for once didn't have a reason to be a cheapskate! We had just enjoyed our first drinks of the night, they were greatly needed to offset the previous nights consumption. Bangkok had already come alive, the streets close to 'Yaorawat Road' were pulsing and people were out in their droves. Those older buildings told us a story from the very start, we were about to see this 243 year old Chinatown in all of its glory. The energy along that main street was out of this world, the lights were brightly neon lit with Thai and Chinese sign blazing for all to see. Traffic was passing through but not just on the road, people were absolutely everywhere! We saw an abundance of seafood on offer but that wasn't our vibe, we even looked through some menus outside some Japanese restaurants. Our choice was a very ordinary Chinese restaurant, I ordered something very normal and that was fine with me! Yes, Andy and I enjoyed our meals.

Chinatown Bangkok was unlike no other Chinatown I had been to, there was such an energy that was constant! That foodie moment allowed me and Andy to catch up because before that time I had been away in the Philippines and he had been working, life always keeps us busy. After finishing our meals we headed back out into the action, we headed for another drink or three because the night was still very young. The noise on the street was a lot, we found a speakeasy place to grab a beer, as mentioned before that establishment had a cracking deal on Sapporo Beer! Chinatown did what it needed to, it showed me a vibrant and historical area with much to take in. The boundless energy rubbed off on me, I felt ready for the night ahead because the energy kept me going. I will never forget that evening spent in Bangkok's Chinatown, there were no complaints regarding our food, it was honest and tasty! Heading into the night, I felt that 'Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner' had been done right! Bangkok stayed with me, showing me grace!

Another Night Out? Yes!
