Music: Nigerian Divas, Afro-Fusion & Tiwa Savage!

Turning the radio once again, 'MUSIC' is back to delve further into the Nigerian music scene. Serving Nigerian divas such as; 'Waje' and 'Omawumi' for our entertainment, only supreme singing choices will be made from here on. Flicking the switch with the emergence of a new musical style, 'Afro-Fusion' is ruling the waves! Tiwa, who? Yes, the one and only 'Tiwa Savage!'

After the star-studded advert for Nigeria's 'Glo' came into my life, I was able to discover such music from several famous Nigerian artists! 'Waje's' music grabbed my attention, listening to 'Onye' had me hooked to this Nigerian songstresses music! Featuring 'Tiwa Savage', the music video for 'Onye' took me on a whole journey, serving Nigerian 'Housewife Realness!' Yes, I'll be getting to 'Tiwa Savage's' own section, what a collaboration though? Yes! Going further back, 'Coco Baby' by 'Waje' served a light and summery vibe, complete with enough sugar! 'Coco Baby' always gives me the right beat to dance to, the upbeat tempo is a winner for me. Popping bottles alongside fellow Nigerian powerhouse 'Yemi Alade', 'I'm Available' packed an epic punch with an empowering message! Styled as a hen party moment, the video stepped up the 'sugar' with attitude and sass, knowing that they'd got it! For you love, 'I'm Available!' 'Waje' constantly keeps the bar high when it comes to being one of the key 'Nigerian Divas!' She went where? No!

Only a few years ago, 'Waje' released a statement professing that music wasn't what she thought it would be. Was this statement suggesting her retirement or just a hiatus? After much research through YouTube, I stumbled upon 'Vibes' by 'Waje' with 'Falz' as featuring artist, was this her comeback track? Coming through with an electronic beat, keeping the energy as she had done before her exit, she returned with a new vibe! 'Feeling Good' proved that 'Waje's' return to music wasn't going to be a quick step in and out of retirement, another new beat had me livened up! 'Don Ready O', there's no doubt that 'Waje' intends to keep making new music on the Nigerian music scene, here for this we are! In 2013 I bought my one and only 'Waje' record, that was her debut album 'WAJE' and I wasn't disappointed by that choice! Produced with a reggae beat, 'I Wish' saw me listening to a different kind of beat. Wishing that she didn't have a heart, only stones will fill it inside! 'Oko Mi' had me singing along in the Nigerian Yoruba language! Go, W!

That mobile phone advert proved to be a true gift, introducing me to a further 'Nigerian Diva' known as 'Omawumi'. Bringing an infectious beat, I couldn't stop listening to 'Omawumi's' tracks! Sweetened with an abundance of flavour, 'Bottom Belle' had me shaking my own 'bum bum!' Upbeat and easy to dance along to, there's always time to dance along to 'Omawumi's' African beats. Empowering? Yes, each 'Omawumi' song is filled with a certain 'get up and go' and that is the energy we need more than ever right now! It has to be 'The African Way', from the land of freedom, also the setting sun with countless human colours. Bringing in a declaration of love for her continent, there's no getting away from the message from this 'Omawumi' anthem. The path of victory is what 'Omawumi' chose, belting out that it's time for Africa! 'Warn Yourself' definitely had me listening to those lyrics carefully, absolutely there's no time for rash decisions because 'Omawumi' said 'stop, wait a minute!' Take your time and make the right decision, OK!

Full of wonder, making her presence known like 'thunder', 'Somori' sounded like a war-cry for all of those called by 'Omuwumi' to stop resting on 'pretty!' The music video was a feast for my eyes, teamed with drums for days, there wasn't much I didn't like! No, I loved it all! Filled with African references, covering fashion and dance, 'Somori' grabbed my attention for certain! 'Billionaire' brought me up to date with a 2022 release, bringing things with an expensive node because that music video served opulence. Chopping the money and saving the money is surely the quickest way to became a 'Billionaire?' With a saxophone like beat, I loved listening to 'Billionaire' by 'Omawumi' very much! Claiming the finer things in her life, 'My Life' brought the 'you can't touch this' vibe within those gated community houses serving a fancy setting. Giving me the impression that everything in my life is worth fighting for and everything we have is ours to be enjoyed, others need to say less! Wholeheartedly, 'Omawumi' brings the right beat for me!

The founder of 'Afro-Fusion?' I will have to be honest, I didn't want this blog to be a complete female affair because 'Burna Boy' more than deserves his own mention! Yes, some say that he's the genius behind 'Afro-Fusion?' Well, that needs to be fact checked but a new genre within 'Afro-Beats' is breaking through and 'Burna Boy' is all over that news headlines! Come on through with the facts, please? Cool down, please? It's time to 'Simmer!' Burna collaborated with UK based singer, 'Mahalia' to be part of her hit, 'Simmer'. Now, I hadn't listened much to him before or 'Mahalia' but Christ Alive, that hit was on fire and it still is! 'Last Last' told me a whole story, filmed at 'Burna Boy's' own residence in Nigeria, that plush pad served the best filming location with his successes amplified. Bringing the UK back on the beat, Walsall's own 'Jorja Smith with 'Burna Boy' present. 'Be Honest' served another UK female singer with killer vocals, 'Burna Boy' complimented the track perfectly. So, does the UK have the best female vocalists?

Instagram can be awash with annoying songs, some of them can be like parasites that eat your brain but one 'Afro-Fusion' beat broke that curse. 'Finesse' by 'Pheelz' had been a song posted on many 'small business appreciation posts' but I had no idea what the song was called. Now I know where the chorus belongs, sure as anything I'm not mad about that music discovery! No! 'Don't Rush?' Yes, those viral make-over reels with that famous make-up brush relay had me wondering where that song had originated from? Yes, I found out that 'Young T & Bugsey' had been responsible for that beat, another well found 'GRM Daily' track! Sure, social media can hold the key to fresh music, only music with that extra beat! Keeping that Nigerian connection, 'Bugsey' was born in Ibadan in Nigeria whereas 'Young T' is of British Jamaican heritage. From all facets of media, 'Afro-Fusion' music can be heard from far and wide! The truth is, I need to pay more attention next time whilst I'm scrolling! Truly, truly and the rest follows! More music?

A rising star and a former X-Factor UK contestant, 'Tiwa Savage's' music was brought to my attention in 2013. 'Once Upon A Time' being her debut album was the first commercially packaged Afro-Pop music album I had streamed before! 'Ikeke' caught my attention truly with a pop-like African beat, from that moment the beat of 'Tiwa' had me wanting to listen to more! Who was Genevieve? I didn't know! Knowing what to do, I listened to the rest of the album, more Yoruba language I did hear! 'Middle Passage' possessed a slower beat, with hints of a western influence, it was nice to hear something different. 'Tiwa's' appeal told me that this Nigerian singer would surely flourish into a superstar in the mainstream as an ambassador of Nigerian music. Featuring 'Don Jazzy', 'Eminado' exuded a 'feel good vibe', acting as a 'Good Luck Charm'. 'Eminado' became my only one, 'Savage' branding herself as an African 'Barbie' with good humour placed. Eh, 'Folarin!' That beat from her debut album didn't serve foolery! O!

Blowing up, 'Tiwa Savage' became the first lady of Nigerian modern music as her presence became undeniable! African 'bad gyal' made it onto the front-page of her 2020 music video, shimmying with her 'Koroba' hit, that video popped with colours galore! Meaning 'Bucket' in English, that Yoruba translation meant to basically 'Carry The Bucket'. Did those 2020 'Koroba' lyrics hold a political undertone? I want to know! No, it wasn't a remix of 'The Boy Is Mine' because in 2021 'Savage' teamed up with 'Toni Braxton', releasing 'Somebody's Son'. Not a heartbreak song, I loved how they held no urgency for that man to find them, that somebody's son would bring them love and light. That female led, empowering and funky track had me listening to the future, let the men find the woman because 'Tiwa' and 'Toni' knew the answer! 'Tiwa' is not an artist to rest on, her excellence is rare and the world should hear more of her Nigerian vibe. 'MUSIC' for now has visited Africa four times, let's take things East! Oh yes, Asia!

Done!
